As you may know there has been a lot of problems with the Polaroid FLM-373b LCD TV. I was unfortunately one of the many who purchased this TV only to find out that it stops working after 2 years (in some cases months). After going through the pitiful customer service at Polaroid I was told I needed a new Control Box, and that it would range from $400-$600 plus labor. I am a WVU Engineering student, and don't have the means to pay that much, so it seemed I was SOL. Eventually after cooling off I decided to troubleshoot myself. In the past I have been able to fix many electrical components, and felt I had nothing to lose. After lengthy probing, and testing I was able to narrow down the problem and fixed the issue with my Control Box. This is not something I would recommend doing unless you have considerable experience in this kind of electrical work, as you may be doing more harm than good.

I set up this page to make my services available to all the people who own the FLM-373B, and are experiencing symptoms similar to mine. The cost for the repair will be $70 US plus the cost of shipping, which is relatively cheap considering the options available for most people who's warranty expired and are left with the cost of a new control box plus the labor to install it. You will only need to mail the Control Box. Now before you get to excited I must state that the repair service I am able to provide will only work if you have the FLM-373B, and are experiencing the following symptoms:

-TV screen won't turn on (red light will turn blue, but screen is blank)

-Can't turn off TV with remote or on the set after first symptom (blue light won't turn red when the screen is blank)

-TV does turn on when unplugged then plugged back in (the frequency of which it was needed increased over time)

-Humming from the speakers after finally getting the set powered up (faded over a minute or so)

Although my TV was never completely unable to turn on, (from first symptoms to fixed, about 2 days) I believe (due to the nature of the solution) my set would have eventually never turned on even with repetitive power cycles. Even if your set is completely unable to turn on I am fairly certain as long as your set has experienced the symptoms listed above I will be able to repair your Control Box.

The cost of parts and labor total $70 which can be done through paypal.

The parts that are used in the repair are rated to handle 3.5 times the load of the originally equipped parts, so a chance of a future failure are very slim.

Shipping here and back is to be provided by you, so it's your call on how fast you want it back. (Express, Ground, etc...)

It will only take me 1-2 days from the date I receive your Control Box to have it repaired and on its way back to you.

If you are interested, or have any questions concerning the repair please send me an e-mail. If you wish to speak with me, indicate in the email a number I can reach you at and i'll do my best to get in touch.

The control box is actually very easy to remove from the television, and detailed instructions can be found in Polaroid's service manual which you can download HERE. The section you need is on pages 21 and 22.
